I've rebuilt a few battery packs, and I've been considering getting a welder. Batteries that already have the tabs on them can be a pain, because the tab orientation is usually wrong, and you still have to add a bunch of extra connecting wire, and then try to get it all to fit back into the case.

The best batteries I've found are the Panasonics from our local electronics distributor. I don't think there's anything too special about them, except that they have a fairly high stock turnover, so they're always fresh. Also, our local distributor has the best prices by far. Those are great tools and I recommend them.
